The incident occurred at approximately 12:23 p.m., when officers responded to reports of in-progress credit card fraud at fled Best Buy in the Fashion Center, located at 34 E Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said.
The suspects, described as Black males wearing surgical masks, were seen leaving the store and entering a white BMW sedan with New York plates near the Route 17 side of the parking lot.
Officer Andrew Novack arrived on the scene and parked his patrol vehicle behind the BMW in an attempt to block its exit. The suspects maneuvered around Novack’s vehicle but were briefly blocked by another car waiting to merge onto Route 17 North, Guidetti said.
As Officer Jason Hrbeck pulled behind the BMW, the suspects reversed, striking Hrbeck’s patrol vehicle and damaging its front bumper before fleeing northbound on Route 17, the chief added.
No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing as the Paramus Police Department works to identify and apprehend the suspects.
